Orchid Lab

Scientific and conservative tracking for sensitive, high-value specimens: roots and velamen, hydration, ventilation, pseudobulbs, flower spike, flowering, color and flower duration. Here the priority is to do no harm.

That is why Orchids Lab always works in cautious mode: fewer goals at a time, more program days and more evidence before pushing anything. We explain why and what it means for your plant.

What it is

What Orchids Lab is and who it is for

Orchids Lab is Yolia's laboratory for one of the most delicate and valuable plant families. It is one of the two specialties that the system internally marks as high-value (together with Resin & Trichomes): your case automatically rises to greater caution just by belonging to this laboratory, even if you declare no risk signal.

In practice this means: the program adds 7 days to the base duration, boosting is forced to balanced mode, and at most 3 objectives are activated at a time. It is slower and more prudent on purpose: in orchids, the most common mistake is not giving too little, it is giving too much.

It's for you if…

You have a valuable orchid or a group of valuable orchids and want a careful, evidence-based plan.
Your plant has damaged roots, flowering that does not arrive or flowers that last a short time, and you want to sort out what to correct first.
You grow commercial orchids in a greenhouse and need uniformity and follow-up by sector.
You understand that “more” is not “better” and you are willing to wait for the evidence.
You can keep a logbook with photos of the condition of the roots.

It's not for you if…

You want to force flowering in a plant with damaged roots: the system recovers the roots first.
You want a ready-to-apply product and do not want to prepare anything.
Your main problem is one of management (overwatering, decomposed growing medium, lack of air): no formula fixes that.
You need a guarantee of results in color, duration or flowering.
You want Yolia to identify the species from a photo: it does not do that.
Ciencia explicada fácil

What happens inside an orchid and why less is more here

Most cultivated orchids are epiphytes: in nature they grow on trees, not in soil. Their roots are covered by velamen, a spongy tissue that absorbs water very quickly and also dries out quickly. That is why they need air around the root, and why one of the most common causes of loss in potted orchids is overwatering with an oxygen-starved root.

Many genera (Cattleya, Oncidium, Dendrobium, Cymbidium, among others) store water and reserves in pseudobulbs; others, like Phalaenopsis, do not have them and depend more on leaves and roots. What helps one does not necessarily help another. That is why Yolia asks you for the crop and the variety, and when the identity is doubtful, it prefers to be conservative.

Flowering depends, according to the genus, on environmental signals (temperature difference between day and night, light, time of year) and on the plant having reserves. Forcing flowering in a plant with a damaged root is a bad idea; one of the Sandbox example cases illustrates it. How long the flower lasts depends a lot on whether there was pollination, on ethylene, on humidity and on temperature.

What comes already decided

The genus and how it grows (with or without pseudobulbs).
The signals that trigger its flowering.
The patterns and base color of the variety.
Root damage that has already happened: it recovers slowly.

What Yolia can modulate

The health of the root and the velamen.
Un riego equilibrado, no abundante.
The plant's reserves.
The stability and ventilation of the environment (as case context).
The careful recovery of weakened specimens.
Targets

The 9 goals of the Orchids Laboratory, one by one

Each objective is explained with four things: what it means, how the engine works it, what is worth noting in your logbook and where the honest limit lies. A real case activates 1 to 4 objectives at a time, not all of them: more objectives is not better, because they compete for the same plant resources.

01

Roots and velamen

What it is. Firm roots, with good velamen, that absorb without staying wet.

Cómo lo trabajamos. In rooting and recovery the engine raises the root to maximum priority. Catalog modules such as F-03 (phosphorus, zinc and structural proteins) and XA-06 (root electrolytes with watermelon and cucumber) support an active root.

What to write in your logbook. Color and firmness of the roots (green and firm, or gray and dry), with a photo of the roots every week.

Límite honesto. Yolia does not replace the growing medium. A decomposed medium holds water and suffocates the root; that is fixed by changing the medium.

02

Balanced hydration

What it is. Ni sed ni encharcamiento: un equilibrio.

Cómo lo trabajamos. It is not about giving more water. In heat and dryness the engine reinforces electrolytes and cellular hydration; with risk of waterlogging, it blocks the retention and biofilm modules (hard block). Yolia usually proposes less, not more.

What to write in your logbook. Weight of the pot before and after watering, and the temperature and humidity of the place.

Límite honesto. The irrigation is yours. The formula does not make up for excessive irrigation.

03

Ventilation and stability

What it is. Moving air and stable conditions around the plant.

Cómo lo trabajamos. It is an environment-management objective, which is why the engine treats it as context: with humidity of 75% or more in a greenhouse it reinforces defense against excess moisture, and indoors it warns of condensation risk (humidity of 85% or more, or little difference from the dew point) using your latest measurement.

What to write in your logbook. Relative humidity and temperature at the same spot and the same time, and whether you see droplets on leaves or roots.

Límite honesto. You provide the ventilation with fans, windows or placement. Yolia only alerts you and adjusts the strategy.

04

Pseudobulbs and reserves

What it is. Firm, full pseudobulbs that sustain the next bloom.

Cómo lo trabajamos. Applies to genera that have them. The engine supports reserves with support energy (XA-05, carrot and rice: stable reserve sugars) and avoids excess nitrogen, which fattens leaves but not reserves.

What to write in your logbook. Firmness and wrinkling of the pseudobulbs, and the number of new pseudobulbs per cycle.

Límite honesto. If your orchid has no pseudobulbs (like Phalaenopsis), this goal does not apply; declare the variety correctly.

05

Flower stalk

What it is. So that the stem emerges, grows firm and supports the flowers.

Cómo lo trabajamos. Flowering, pollen and fruit set weighs 1.45 in the engine and vegetative nitrogen is blocked when the plant flowers. It is supported with structure modules (T-22, horsetail) and is activated only if the root has recovered.

What to write in your logbook. Date the stem appears, growth rate, and whether it bends or dries out.

Límite honesto. The signals that start the stem depend on the genus (temperature, light). Yolia does not trigger them.

06

Flowering

What it is. Complete, fully open flowers of good size.

Cómo lo trabajamos. With a healthy root, the engine reinforces flowering and avoids loading too many objectives. In cautious mode, a maximum of 3 are activated at a time, separated into phases.

What to write in your logbook. Number of flowers per stem, size and opening date.

Límite honesto. Flowering is not forced on a weakened plant. That is the criterion of cautious mode.

07

Color and patterns

What it is. Intense color and defined patterns within what the variety allows.

Cómo lo trabajamos. Pigments and antioxidants weigh 1.30. Modules such as F-13 (beet, turmeric and sprouts) support the antioxidant aspect. With high light (900 or more), the engine adds light management.

What to write in your logbook. Photos with the same light and background, compared week to week.

Límite honesto. Patterns are genetic and color varies with light and temperature; Yolia does not change them.

08

Floral duration

What it is. So that the flowers stay open longer.

Cómo lo trabajamos. Stable hydration, structure (calcium), no excess nitrogen and a stable environment. Example modules: XB-10 (calcium) and XD-29 (floral anti-stress).

What to write in your logbook. Days from opening until the first flower wilts, in treated and control plants.

Límite honesto. Pollination, ethylene, humidity and heat shorten the flower's life very markedly and do not depend on Yolia.

09

Conservative recovery

What it is. Recover a weakened plant without forcing it.

Cómo lo trabajamos. If the risk is critical (for example, doubtful identity or 2 critical signals), the system enters protection mode and does not deliver a formula until the case is stabilized. During recovery, the engine reinforces anti-stress, electrolytes and root.

What to write in your logbook. Vigor from 1 to 5 and whether the symptoms are none, localized or general, every week.

Límite honesto. A plant under protection can go weeks without a formula. It is a safety decision, not a failure.

Do you already know which goal you want to work on in Orchids?

How the engine decides

What the engine prioritizes when the case is Orchids

When you choose Orchids, the engine raises these functions before building your formula, but always within this specialty's cautious mode.

Function the engine reinforcesPriorityWhat it is for, in simple language
Flowering, pollen and fruit set1.45Supports flower formation, pollen quality and the flower developing well.
Pigments and antioxidants1.30Support for color and the antioxidant defense of tissues.
Calcio estructural1.25Firmer cell walls: stems, petals and fruits with better structure.
Sabor, aroma y metabolitos1.20Aroma and flavor quality: secondary compounds the plant makes when it has energy and minerals.
Silicio vegetal1.15Tissue structure and strength (for example, against wind and high humidity).
Defensa biológica preventiva0.95Gentle, preventive support; it does not replace sanitary management.

Priority is a real relative weight of the engine: above 1.00 the function is reinforced, below 1.00 it is kept gentle. It is not an improvement percentage or a promise of results.

And the stage of your plant changes what gets prioritized

Before mixing anything, the engine reads the stage you declare. That is why the same plant gets a different strategy when rooting than when flowering.

StageWhat drives the engineQué evita o bloquea
GerminationRaíz y pelos absorbentes, fósforo y zinc de semillas, nitrógeno de arranque moderadoExcesos de nitrógeno
Enraizamiento / trasplanteRoot (the highest priority of this stage), phosphorus and zinc, biosignalsOverloading with flower goals

MaturationEngorde y firmeza, Brix, sabor y aroma, control de exceso de nitrógenoNitrógeno vegetativo y de germinados: queda bloqueado
The cautious mode

Why Orchids Lab is more prudent than the rest

These rules are real and activate on their own, without you having to ask for them:

Alto valor, riesgo alto

Cautela automática

Because it is a high-value specialty, the case rises to high risk and the operating mode is conservative, even if you do not check any risk signal.

If we do not know which plant it is

If your confidence in the identity is low or unknown, the case is marked as critical and the system enters protection mode: it gathers evidence before building a formula.

Crop and variety are requested
Without a reliable identity there is no formula
Waiting is preferred over taking a risk
Less is more

One goal at a time

The system puts the root first. As long as the root remains damaged, flowering is not boosted: that is the example case you will see below.

Climate

How climate factors into the Orchids Laboratory

The orchid is very sensitive to its environment: humidity, ventilation, light and temperature differences. Yolia confirms your location, reads the forecast and assesses whether your crop is indoor, greenhouse or outdoor.

Condition the engine detectsUmbral realWhat functions it reinforces
Calor extremo y sequedadMaximum of 32 °C or more with little available waterElectrolytes and cellular hydration, drought defense, antioxidant pigments, radiation/PAR, root
Frío y riesgo de mínimaMínima de 8 °C o menosAnti-estrés antioxidante, carbohidratos fermentables, raíz, balance carbono-nitrógeno
Humedad alta y drenaje pobreHumidity of 78% or more with poor drainageDefensa contra exceso de humedad, defensa biológica, silicio, raíz
Low oxygenation in the rootLow or very low root oxygenationRaíz, defensa contra exceso de humedad, control de salinidad, silicio
Tierra pobreMateria orgánica de 2% o menosMicrobiología húmica, transporte mineral, raíz, proteína y aminoácidos
Salinidad altaWater conductivity of 1.4 mS/cm or moreControl de salinidad, vehículo de agua segura, transporte mineral
Indoor with limited lightIndoor growing with 250 µmol/m²/s of PAR light or lessMagnesio y clorofila, verdes minerales, balance carbono-nitrógeno
Greenhouse with heat and humidityGreenhouse with humidity of 75% or moreDefense against excess humidity, silicon, radiation management
Outdoors with windOutdoors with wind of 25 km/h or moreWind and evaporation, silicon, structural calcium, drought defense
High radiationPAR light of 900 µmol/m²/s or moreManagement of radiation, antioxidant pigments, electrolytes

These are the ten real contexts the engine evaluates. If your case meets one, those functions rise in priority; if it meets several, they are combined. If you do not declare a piece of data, the engine flags it as missing instead of inventing it.

What weighs most in Orchids

High humidity with stagnant air: activates moisture-excess defense and silicon.
Low root oxygenation: blocks retention and biofilm and reinforces root and salinity control.
Indoor with light of 250 or less: reinforces magnesium, chlorophyll and carbon-nitrogen balance.
Indoor condensation: alert when humidity is 85% or more, or when the difference from the dew point is 1.5 °C or less.
High heat and radiation: reinforces electrolytes, pigments and light management.

Alertas de clima reales (pronóstico de 7 días)

Thunderstorm or hailstorm (according to the forecast)
Frost risk: temperatura de 1.5 °C o menos fuera de interior
Intense heat in open field: 35 °C or more
Possible greenhouse overheating (estimate of 36 °C or more; must be verified with a sensor)
Strong wind gusts: 50 km/h or more outdoors
Likely heavy rain: 10 mm or more with a probability of 60% or more
Possible pot heating: 30 °C or more with high radiation
Indoor condensation risk, based on your last saved measurement

What Yolia does with an alert. If there is an alert crítica, the system holds back the field application. If it is high, requires a balanced review and lowers the boost mode to “balanced”. The forecast comes from Open-Meteo (7 days, hourly) and the multi-year climate history of your location; a location confirmed on the map is needed for this to work.

Ventana de cosecha y corte de emergencia. Yolia calculates a theoretical date of the optimal point according to the real progress of your program and, depending on the destination (local, national or export), suggests cutting 0, 2 or 5 days earlier. If a serious alert (frost, storm, heavy rain, strong wind) falls on the final stretch, it recommends bringing the cut forward. Límite honesto: it is a calendar-based estimate, not a reading of your plant; Yolia does not yet analyze photos to decide the harvest point.

Orchids usually live in controlled environments. That is why it is best that you declare the latest temperature and humidity measurement you have: indoor alerts use your saved values, not just the outdoor forecast.

Your climate changes your formula. See the plans and start with your location.

Flower duration

Cuánto dura la flor: qué depende de nosotros y qué no

In orchids, the duration of the flower is part of the specimen's value. And it is also where it is easiest to over-promise. The flower can last weeks, but what shortens it most (pollination, ethylene, humidity, heat, wetting the flower) almost never depends on the formula.

On the crop side, Yolia can support structure, hydration and stability. In Yolia it is a declared objective and is evaluated against your control plants, not a promised number.

What determines duration

Si la flor fue polinizada.
Exposure to ethylene.
Temperatura y humedad.
The flower getting wet or receiving direct sun.
Género y variedad.
Plant reserves.

Where Yolia can indeed help

Stable hydration.
Tissue structure with calcium and silicon.
Evitar exceso de nitrógeno.
Program stability with cautious mode.
Compare against control plants in your logbook.

What Yolia does not control

Pollination.
The environment of the room or greenhouse.
Handling and transport.
La genética de la variedad.
Promise you a number of extra days.

If someone promises you “X more weeks of bloom” without comparing against a control plant of your own, be wary. What we can give you is the method to check it on your own plant.

How the modules are mixed

A schedule of 8 phases, not a single mix

A Yolia module is a unit of plant biochemistry: a controlled process (fermentation, infusion or extraction) with declared ingredients, times, pH and yield. The engine chooses modules from a catalog organized into four product families, measures how much load each phase can bear and places them at the right physiological moment. If two modules clash, they are not removed: they are separated into different phases.

1

Hour 0 · Bioactivation, signaling and transport

Prepares uptake, membranes, signaling and internal circulation. Root or foliar route depending on the module.

2

Hour 12 · Root, soil, water and oxygenation

Improves root, rhizosphere, water, aeration and availability. Root pathway.

3

Hour 24 · Núcleo madre: Biokit y pulso nutricional

Entrega energía, proteína, minerales y la base funcional fuerte. Vía radicular.

4

Hour 36 · Vegetative and structural specialization

Crecimiento, clorofila, tallo y arquitectura. Vía radicular o foliar.

5

Hour 48 · Flower, fruit and quality specialization

Directs resources to flowering, fruit set, fruit, aroma, color, and firmness.

6

Hour 60 · Defense and adaptation

Buffers against heat, cold, drought, humidity, wind, radiation and salinity.

7

Hour 72 · Reinforcement, replenishment and reserve mobilization

Replenishes, mobilizes reserves and sustains the plant's response.

8

Hour 96 · Conditional or separate correction

It is applied only when the condition or a measurement triggers it.

Reglas de compatibilidad reales

Strong nitrogen is blocked during flowering, fruiting, and ripening, unless a specialist reviews it.
Acidic and alkaline modules are prepared and diluted separately; their concentrates are never mixed.
Calcium and phosphate are kept in separate preparations until the final dilution, to reduce the risk of precipitation.
Retention and biofilm are blocked when there is waterlogging or severe low oxygenation at the root.
Two modules that should not go together but both add value are split into separate phases, at least 24 hours apart, instead of dropping one.
There are recognized synergies that the engine rewards: calcium with silicon, root with phosphorus and zinc, potassium with Brix, biosignals with amino acids, microbiology with mineral transport.

Límites de carga

Each phase has a maximum capacity; if a module exceeds it, it does not enter that phase.
In stress contexts (heat, cold, wind, humidity…), the capacity of each phase drops to as low as 28%.
The engine measures the risk of waste and saturation and keeps them below 92% saturation.
Goals active at once are limited to 3 or 4 (fewer on conservative routes).

Real examples of modules the engine can use in Orchids

They are real modules from the catalog. Which one is chosen in your case, in what phase and in what quantity depends on your plant, your stage, your climate and your logbook; the exact quantities are only shown in your formula, not on this page or in the Sandbox.

Logbook and evidence

Your logbook is what allows the formula to be adjusted

Without evidence, the system cannot correct anything: that is why the logbook is not decoration. You record notes and photos throughout the program and follow a few control plants —a representative group that you observe closely— to compare against the rest. With 1 plant, that whole plant is followed; up to 4 plants, all are followed; from 5 to 20, 3 are followed; from 21 to 500, 5; and from 501 to 5,000, 10.

Qué conviene anotar

Photos of las raíces: color, firmeza y velamen, una vez por semana.
Vigor from 1 to 5 and whether the symptoms are none, localized or general.
Watering dates and how dry or wet the medium is.
Temperature and humidity at the same spot and time.
Appearance of the stalk and the flowers, with date.
If there was pollination or contact with ripe fruit (because of ethylene).
Date of each application: phase and module.
Days of flower duration in treated plants versus control plants.

The program has real milestones

Day 0: expediente y alcance confirmados.
Day 3: evidencia inicial y plantas de seguimiento.
Day: fórmula o estrategia científica inicial (en Diagnóstico, diagnóstico y ruta recomendada).
Between day 7 and 14: first response review.
Up to day 21: recalibration, if your plan includes it and the evidence justifies it.
At the end: cierre honesto del caso con un resultado declarado.

Recalibration, no silent changes. When it is recalibrated, all 21 engines are run again in full with your new evidence. The previous formula is never deleted and each change leaves a visible event that you can consult. There is a manual recalibration, an automatic notice (when uploading a note, it only recommends and requires at least 14 days since the last adjustment) and, only in Resin & Trichomes Lab, an automatic recalibration with a verified photo. The plans include 0 (Diagnosis), 1 (Targeted formula) or 3 (Advanced laboratory); an additional one requires a new quote.

In orchids, a photo of the root is worth a thousand words. It is the evidence that helps the system most in deciding whether to move forward or wait.

Un caso real, paso a paso

The root is still damaged and flowering is requested

This is one of the Sandbox example cases: an orchid in a greenhouse in Spain, 1 plant, recovering and at high risk. The Sandbox uses the same engine, but never shows ingredients or doses.

1

Step 1 · Identity

The plant's identity is confirmed: without a reliable identity there is no formula.

2

Step 2 · Root

The condition of the root is assessed with your evidence.

3

Step 3 · Humidity

The water balance and waterlogging risk are checked.

4

Step 4 · Minimal test

A minimal strategy is made, not a full program.

5

Step 5 · Review

With the new evidence you decide whether to move forward or wait.

6

Step 6 · Closure

The case closes with a stated result.

The root is still damaged and flowering is requested. What would the system do?

The safe choice

Recover roots before boosting flowering

It's the one the Sandbox marks as safe: without a healthy root, pushing the flower means overloading a plant that can't sustain it.

Sobrecarga

Increasing all goals without reviewing

Piling goals onto a plant that is already weak. The engine advises against it.

Uncertainty

Continue without evidence

Moving ahead without new root data. The system asks for evidence before moving forward.

That is the philosophy of Orquídeas Lab: root first, then everything else. Going slow here is not a flaw in the system, it's its design.

Verdad completa

What we can do and what we will never promise

This section exists for a reason: we would rather you not sign up than sign up expecting something we cannot deliver.

What we do

Prioritize roots and recovery before pushing the flower.
Enter protection mode if the identity is doubtful or the risk is critical.
Read the weather and warn about condensation indoors using your latest measurement.
Limit active goals to 3 and separate them by phase.
Keep a logbook with photos and recalibrate, leaving everything recorded.
Give you the step-by-step preparation with times, temperature, and target pH.

What we do not do or promise

Identify your species from a photo.
Replacing the growing medium, irrigation or ventilation.
Guarantee flowering, color, patterns or flower duration.
Change the genetics or trigger the genus's flowering signals.
Replace a phytosanitary diagnosis or a laboratory analysis when one is needed.
Promise results on a given date: each formula is marked as a prototype on the way to full experimental validation.
Pros y contras

Pros and cons of Orchids Lab, no sugarcoating

A favor

Designed to be careful: automatic cautious mode, without you asking for it.
The root comes first, and the system refuses to push the flower on a damaged root.
If you doubt the identity, the system waits before taking a risk.
The weather and your latest indoor measurement go into the calculation.
Evidence with photos and transparent recalibration: the previous version is never deleted.
Try free in the Sandbox with the same engine.
The price drops with fewer plants: with 1 plant you pay much less than for a batch.

En contra o a considerar

It's slower: the program adds 7 days and activates a maximum of 3 goals at a time.
It may spend weeks in protection mode without delivering a formula if the case is critical.
It's a high-value specialty and its base price is higher than that of roses, tulips, gourmet and WOW flowers.
It's a prototype: it doesn't have full experimental validation yet.
Requires preparing ferments of 50 to 72 hours and keeping a logbook with photos.
The included recalibrations are limited (0, 1 or 3 depending on the plan).
It's a one-time payment for the whole program: there are no monthly fees, but the total depends on how many days it lasts (21, 37 or 52 with the high-value adjustment).

Compared with the rest of the world

An experienced orchid grower knows that root, watering and ventilation rule, and that many orchids are lost through excess care. Yolia does not dispute that: its design, in fact, starts from there. What it offers is a system that brakes itself, that prioritizes the root and that leaves evidence you can audit. We do not compare Yolia against other brands because we do not have independent tests to do so, and we do not yet have complete experimental validation in orchids.

If, after reading all this, it makes sense to you, the next step is to choose a tier.

Qué nivel elegir

Diagnosis, Targeted formula, or Advanced Laboratory in Orchids

All three use the same scientific engine; none is a reduced version. What changes is how much support we give you and what we deliver.

Scientific diagnosis

Entender antes de actuar

Review of the case, signals and context, identification of risks and missing data, and a clear recommendation for the next step. It does not include a formula. Very useful for orchids: often the right first step is to correct the management.

Targeted formula

The most popular choice to get started

A complete formula for a defined goal, with logbook, control plants and a recalibration during the program. It is the level Yolia marks as recommended to start with.

Advanced laboratory

For very valuable specimens or several goals

Expanded evaluation, with 3 recalibrations during the program. Designed for valuable specimens or several coordinated goals, with closer follow-up.

Preguntas

Preguntas frecuentes sobre Orquídeas Lab

Because Orchids is a high-value specialty: the system treats it with greater caution and adds 7 days to the base program.
No. If the root is damaged, the system recovers the root first. And the signals that trigger flowering depend on the genus and on the environment you manage.
It works for both, but it is best to declare the genus and variety correctly, because some goals, such as pseudobulbs, only apply to genera that have them.
If your confidence in the identity is low or unknown, the case is marked as critical and the system gathers evidence before building a formula.
The catalog modules are ferments, infusions and teas made with common ingredients. The final formula lists each ingredient and its amount.
Specialty, route, plant, stage, location confirmed on the map and number of plants are required. Climate, water and soil are optional but improve accuracy.
No. We work on the crop side and give you the method to check it against your control plants.
It depends on how many plants you have and how many objectives you activate. Below, on this same page, are the three plans with their prices.
Plans

Planes de Orquídeas

The three levels use the same scientific engine; what changes is the depth, the program days, the formula and the recalibrations included. Each card opens its own page with the full detail, prices by number of plants, pros and cons.

One-time payment per program, processed by Stripe, with no automatic renewal. The large price is the one for 1 plant (the lowest); with more plants the price rises according to each card's list, and with each additional goal $2 USD is added to the one-time payment before the scope factor. Every Yolia formula is honestly marked as a prototype, still on its way to full experimental validation.
